Summit Community Services held a lovely morning tea on Wednesday, September 17, that was all about conversation, connection and community care.
Community members took a seat in the Summit open area at the back of the car park, basking in the sunshine while enjoying a cup of tea and a selection of morning tea goodies.
There was lots to do and get involved in for the attendees.
Attendees were able to plant their own flowers in a pot, thanks to the morning tea’s sponsoring businesses, and were able to take their gifted flowers home. There was also a lucky door with some fabulous prizes won.
Summit general manager, Jo Burgess, was happy to see clients and community members coming together for some well-needed catching up.
“It’s great to bring people together to have a day out, especially for those who don’t leave their house very often,” Jo said.
“I’m really thankful to the sponsors, they have definitely made it an enjoyable time for everyone.
“We try and do this kind of thing at least twice a year, so our next big one will be our Christmas bash, which everyone is looking forward to.
“I’d say the most rewarding part of these days is simply seeing people talk and socialize outside of their homes.
It will be 42 years this year that Summit Community Services have been delivering care to Narrabri, established in 1983.
Starting off with only five properties, Summit has now expanded to 65 properties being funded under them for community housing.
“We also have contracted with Homes North which is a large housing provider in the New England Region remove in Tamworth, and we manage all the social housing transfer properties, which there are over 150 properties.
As well as this, Summit has a disability support service, with one group home where five people live and inside there they have their workers on 24/7.
“We’ve got another property where a man lives, he rents his own property but has workers come in.
“And then we have community people who we look after, by going into their homes and taking them out into the community.
Jo also said when the disability services began in 1989, the gentleman who was their first client is still with the organisation and attended the morning tea.
