Narrabri Touch’s 2025 season two competitions powered ahead during the long weekend as eight teams took the field at Cooma Oval for their round eight contests on Monday evening.

It was the first time this season that matches were played at the venue following the recent daylight saving time change, but four of the eight scheduled matches did not go ahead due to player unavailability, which forced four teams to forfeit.

It ended up being a tryfest as the players who did line up farewelled the long weekend in style, with 45 tries scored across the four games.

The men’s competition winners in round eight were Lations and Cougars, and the two ladies’ competition winners were Many’s Contractors and Specialised Civil Services.

Specialised Civil Services were too good for Hounddogs as they secured a 9-2 victory. Toni Rae and Jessie Magner led the way for their side as they each scored a hat-trick, and Specialised Civil Services’ other three tries were claimed by Gerri Rumsby, Cassidy Staines and Natalia McInnes. Hounddogs’ two tries were scored by Maya Watson and Elsie Bennett.

Many’s Contractors kept a clean sheet in the other ladies’ contest that went ahead as they defeated TJC Steelers 5-0.

Rya Knox starred in that game with a hat-trick, and her teammates Lidia Richards and Meika Foley both scored a try each.

The other women’s game in round eight saw the Golfie Gobblers prevail by default after their fixture was forfeited by FAFs. That result saw the Gobblers climb above the TJC Steelers and Hounddogs into third place after those three sides entered the evening locked on 13 points.

The full ladies’ competition points tally is as follows:
Specialised Civil Services (23), Many’s Contractors (21), Golfie Gobblers (16), TJC Steelers (14), Hounddogs (14), The FAFs (8).

The most dominant round eight victory was registered in the men’s competition as Cougars took down JWG Livewires 13-2. Andrew Wallace and Isaiah Adams scored hat-tricks in that match, while teammates Rowan Keeler and Tyran Lawler bagged doubles and Pat Mowle, Mark Rottger and Jarrad Lawler scored a try each. Pat Hubbard and Seamus Hunt scored a try each for the JWG Livewires.

The other men’s match played on Monday was won 9-5 by Lations over Win Or Booze.

Lations’ Clifford Toomey was one of the six players to score hat-tricks across all four games as he led the way for his side, while Clifford Toomey Jr bagged a double and Braedon Mason-Kelly, Rodney Stanford-Lamb, Jamarl Zarka and Lachlan Trindall all scored a try each. Hamish Duncan and Cody Smith crossed twice each for Win Or Booze and Jaiden Lovegrove scored their other try.

The other round eight men’s matches saw Reg Reagans forfeit to Grumley Builders, Ballbusters forfeit to Up The Middle, and DTA Lumberjacks forfeit to Gee Bangers.

All of those results meant there was only one ladder change in round eight, with Cougars and Win Or Booze switching spots as Cougars rose to fifth and Win Or Booze dropped to sixth.

The full men’s competition ladder after round eight is as follows:
Grumley Builders (24), Up The Middle (21), Gee Bangers (20), Lations (19), Cougars (17), Win Or Booze (16), DTA Timber Lumberjacks (14), Ballbusters (13), Reg Reagans (8), JWG Livewires (8).
