Well-known Boggabri lady Beris Laylim has been spending time with her family in Sydney, however, she is home for a visit and took the opportunity to catch up with friends over morning tea.
It was a long morning tea and lots of reminiscing taking place for a few close friends on Tuesday.

Mrs Laylim’s son Gareth told the story of Beris being a sewing teacher and she obtained a sewing teacher job at Keepit Dam.

For two years she was boarding in Gunnedah and each morning the workers would pick her up and take her out to Keepit Dam and each afternoon when she finished work, she would walk up to the main road and the workers would pick her up and take her back to Gunnedah.

Beris had a cousin in Boggabri and she came to visit.

Her cousin suggested that Beris apply for the sewing teacher position at the Boggabri Public School.

Beris got the job at the school in 1955 and when she moved to Boggabri she met her future husband.

As they say the rest is history.

After she was married, she joined the family business and worked there for the rest of her working life making many dear friends along the way.

Last month Beris celebrated her 93rd birthday with family, however, there are a few with similar age birthdays who are on the list to visit over the rest of the week.

Beris spent many hours volunteering at the hospital prior to COVID-19.

She is keen to catch-up with some of the residents who are still in care and a few who have moved from the community into care as well as the Boggabri HACC people with whom she has fond memories.
