The Yarrie Lake Trust has launched a community visioning period to help shape the future of one of the district’s favourite places.
A new, easier-to-use branded website, a short online survey, and a series of local drop-in sessions are set to give residents, visitors and lake lovers multiple ways to have their say on what matters most at Yarrie Lake.
This early engagement will inform a draft plan of management that sets out how the lake will be cared for and improved, and what activities and investments should be prioritised. A draft plan is expected to go on public exhibition in early 2026.
Interim administrator Bob Stewart said: “Yarrie Lake is a special place for campers, water skiers and families alike. We want to capture that lived experience and turn it into a practical plan for the lake’s future.
“Whether you have big ideas or small fixes, now is the moment to speak up.
“We’ve made it simple to get involved. We have a new easy-to-use website, a short survey, and if you prefer a chat, come to a drop-in session and talk directly with the team.”
How to have your say:
– Visit the new look website;
– Complete the community survey on the website. The survey closes at 11.59pm on Monday, December 15, 2025;
– Attend a drop-in session: just come anytime during the sessions to share comments, mark up a map and ask questions. Saturday, December 6 7.30am-12.30pm – Narrabri Rotary Markets, Saturday, December 6 – 2.30pm-4.30pm – Yarrie Lake, Sunday, December 7 – 10am-12pm – Wee Waa CWA Hall Monday, 8 December 4.30pm-6.30pm – Narrabri Community Kiosk, Tuesday, December 9 – 4.30pm-6.30pm – Wee Waa CWA Hall.
What we’re asking:
What do you value most about Yarrie Lake?
What’s not working well today?
What ideas do you have to keep the lake usable through dry spells, while caring for the environment?
What do you think the priorities should be for access, amenities, recreation and events?
What opportunities are there to support local business and tourism?
Next steps:
Feedback from the survey and drop-in sessions will be summarised and used to shape the draft Plan of Management. A draft Plan of Management will be placed on public exhibition in early 2026 for formal submissions.
