It was another grand final night thriller at Dangar Park on Monday as Narrabri Touch hosted four entertaining games, two of which were decided by just one try following later winners.
A super 2025 campaign ended with Grumley Builders (A-grade men), Many’s Contractors (A-grade ladies), DTA Timber Lumberjacks (B-grade men) and TJC Steelers (B-grade ladies) being crowned champions after they won their respective matches across the evening.
The B-grade ladies got proceedings underway following the junior matches, and the Steelers prevailed 6-2 over the Golfie Gobblers before the Lumberjacks edged out Cougars 6-5 in the B-grade men’s game.
The A-grade ladies’ match was up next, which Many’s Contractors won 2-1 against Specialised Civil Services, before Grumley Builders wrapped up the night with a 9-5 victory against Lations.
The A-grade contest at Dangar Park was a cracker on Monday as the Grumley Builders and Lations produced the highest-scoring game of the night. Grumley Builders never looked like losing in their 9-5 victory, but there were times during the match that Lations struck to make the defending champions work for their win.
Jock Small claimed a hat-trick for the Grumley Builders, Ethan Brown and Linton Grumley both bagged doubles, and Nick Anderson and Lincoln Saunders chipped in with a try each.
Lachlan Trindall and Clifford Toomey Junior both crossed twice for Lations, and their other try was scored by Chris Clark.
Jydon Hill was named the grand final player of the match as the long-time Grumley Builders gun helped guide his side to a sixth title in seven seasons to cap off a sensational undefeated campaign that included 15 wins from as many matches.
The A-grade ladies’ match was a thriller built on hard work and defence. The sides were locked at 1-all late in the game after Many’s Contractors’ Lidia Richards put her team ahead before Jessie Magner equalised for Specialised Civil Services.
It was still all square with about 30 seconds to go when Rya Knox crossed for the winner for Many’s Contractors, who ended the year having secured a minor and major premiership double.
The B-grade men’s match was also decided by a late try as the DTA Timber Lumberjacks broke a 5-all deadlock to get the job done over Cougars.
Jake Brayshaw and James Albert both bagged doubles in their side’s win, and teammates Chase Magner and Clayton Pursche chipped in with a try each.
Cougars’ five tries were shared between Martin Taylor, Clayton Bruce, Andrew Wallace, Rowan Keeler and Isaiah Adams.
TJC Steelers were too good in the first senior game of the evening as they downed the Golfie Gobblers 6-2.
Shona McFarland secured two of the winning side’s tries, and the other four tries were shared between her teammates Georgia Rogan, Mereka Gleeson, Emily Quirk and Ruby Clayton.
Asher Kelly and Emily Flood scored a try each for Golfie Gobblers.
A presentation was held after the men’s A-grade match, during which the championship-winning teams were all celebrated and several individual award winners were honoured.
This season’s top try-scorers were Specialised Civil Services’ Toni Rae in the ladies’ competition with 37 tries and Cougars’ Rowan Keeler in the men’s competition with 35 tries.
Grand final player of the match awards went to Grumley Builders’ Jydon Hill, Many’s Contractors’ Lidia Richards, DTA Timber Lumberjacks’ Chase Magner, and TJC Steelers’ Mereka Gleeson.
