Len Ryan is Narrabri Bowling Club’s 2025/26 season super veteran singles champion after securing a comeback victory in the final of the over-70s competition on Saturday morning.

Ryan, who was the runner-up last season after going down against Tony Redman in the 2024/25 decider, took on Terry Wilson for the title and prevailed 23 shots to 13 across 19 ends.

Redman was the marker for that match after the defending champion had been beaten by Wilson a week earlier in their semi-final.

It was Ryan who started on the front foot on Saturday morning as he scored one shot on the first end to establish the first lead of the contest.

However, he was then forced to come from well behind after Wilson went on a dominant four-end run to go in front 10 shots to one.

Ryan claimed the next five ends to edge back ahead 11 shots to 10 before Wilson registered two shots on the 11th end to get himself back on top by one shot.

Another dominant run saw Ryan get back in front, and this time put the results beyond doubt as he claimed six consecutive ends to lead 20 shots to 12 at the end of the 17th end.

Wilson managed to score one more shot on the 18th end to keep himself in the contest before Ryan scored three on the 19th end to bring the match to a close.

Narrabri Bowling Club will host another final this Saturday from 8am when six bowlers take to the green for the 2025/26 season men’s triples decider.

That match will see Col Armstrong, Stuart Coleman and Kevin Baguley challenge Graham Rose, Larry Scott and Scott Dewar, who all won their respective semi-final contests back in early December.

Narrabri Bowling Club will also host a roll-up for any players interested in playing open gender pennants this season on Saturday morning from 9am.
