More than 100 farmers, agronomists, industry representatives and consultants gathered at ‘Greenbah’ Springs Plains for the Cotton Seed Distributors field day, taking part in a morning full of research updates, in-paddock insights and expert speakers.
“We were extremely pleased with the field day,” said CSD sales agronomist Emma Chorley.
“The guest speakers were well received with particular interest in the presentation given by Arthur Spellson. (Australian Cotton Shippers Association and cotton manager for ADM )
“His insight into cotton fibre quality and market trends made a great addition to the day.”
“There was a great mix of growers, agronomists and industry in attendance, over 100 in total, which aided discussions and made the day informative for all who attended,” added CSD technical agronomist Natalie Aquilina.
Some of the highlights of the day included the hands-on insights, interactive elements along with the delicious breakfast and chance for a community catch-up.
“The program included a session where attendees were encouraged to enter the field and make their own observations,” said Emma.
“Growers and consultants were encouraged to participate in techniques that are utilised as part of CSD’s trial assessment process, in turn gaining insight into how we run and assess our variety trials.”
“Another highlight was showcasing some of the technology that CSD has implemented including the stem cutter that allows assessment of disease trials,” said CSD sales agronomist Emma Chorley.
As well as Arthur Spellson, the field day’s guest speakers included Jake Johnstone from Crown Analytical Services, Lyon Ag, and members of various CSD teams.
“We’ve had great feedback so far around the interactive variety inspection and discussion,” said added CSD technical agronomist Natalie Aquilina.
“Whilst it was a different way of presenting information, it was a way to get people involved in the variety assessments themselves and to tell us what they saw,” added Emma.
“Breakfast and coffee on us are the least we can do to keep people well fed and hydrated – ready to learn.
“It is also a great opportunity to support local businesses to source our supplies.”
