Narrabri Shire Council is launching a new series of community engagement events, Community Conversations, designed to strengthen connections with residents and provide more opportunities for meaningful, face to face feedback.
Residents might remember these sessions previously as Your Village Matters. While the name has changed, the intent hasn’t – staying connected with the community and hearing directly from residents remains just as important, especially for those that don’t engage with council news through social media or website updates.
The initiative will see council staff out in the community, creating a recognisable and approachable presence across the shire where residents can share their views, ask questions and learn more about council projects and priorities.
Community Conversations will be held twice annually, with the first round focused on sharing information about upcoming projects, strategic plans and policy initiatives. A second round later in the year will provide an opportunity to report back to the community, highlighting progress, outcomes and how feedback has helped shape council decisions.
Narrabri Shire Council general manager Eloise Chaplain said the initiative reflects council’s commitment to improving engagement and transparency.
“Community Conversations is about meeting people where they are and making it easier for everyone to have their say,” Mrs Chaplain said.
“We want to build a stronger understanding of how council operates, while also listening closely to what matters most to our residents as we plan for the future of the shire.”
Residents of all ages, backgrounds and locations across the Shire are encouraged to attend, with council aiming to hear from a broad cross-section of the community.
“These sessions are an opportunity for everyone to be part of the conversation – whether you’re new to the region or have called it home for decades,” Mrs Chaplain said.
“We’re encouraging the community to consider both immediate priorities and the bigger picture, and to share their ideas on how they want their towns and villages to grow and thrive.”
Each session will feature updates on key projects, opportunities to speak directly with council staff and interactive activities suitable for all ages.
Community Conversations will take place across the shire from April 22 to May 17.
Residents who are unable to attend in person can still get involved by visiting: www.narrabri.nsw.gov.au/communityconversations
