Work to widen and seal a large section of Culgoora Road is now completed, allowing heavy vehicles all-weather access to the key freight route between Wee Waa and Narrabri.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the upgrades to the 14-kilometre section of Culgoora Road would boost freight productivity across the region by allowing road trains on the link connecting the Kamilaroi Highway in Wee Waa with the Newell Highway in Narrabri.
“Previously, this road was unsuitable for freight movements which prevented it from being approved for higher mass limit vehicles, forcing some heavy vehicles to make a detour of eight kilometres,” Mr Toole said.
“By widening and strengthening culverts and constructing the road to a design speed of 100km/h, it will now provide access for AB-Triples operating at higher mass limits and save journey times.
“Regional road infrastructure projects like this make a real difference to local businesses and communities, boosting freight efficiency and improving connectivity to our State Road network which helps grow local economies.”
