Former Narrabri resident James Thomson has been endorsed as the National Party’s candidate for the federal seat of Hunter at the next election.

James, the son of Jeff and Karen Thomson, is married to Claire, a pre-school teacher. They have a daughter, Mahlia, with a baby due in November.

Growing up in Narrabri, James moved to the Hunter to study a double degree in Business and Law and is admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW as a lawyer.

Mr Thomson is currently Maitland Christian School’s community relations officer.

He said he was already working to secure the future of the Hunter region.

“Every day, I have the people of the Hunter foremost in my mind, especially the next generation of Hunter citizens and regional Australians,” Mr Thomson said.

“We need to ensure that there are jobs in the regions moving forward and I know The Nationals are unwavering in this belief as they lay the economic foundations for regional, rural and remote areas to thrive well into the future.”

“Growing up in Narrabri I got to learn first hand about a community of people that back each other and are in it together.

“The community spirit was incredible.

“From the Narrabri Arts Eisteddfod, Thrive Church and the Narrabri Education Foundation, the community of Narrabri have always supported me.

“Just like the Hunter, the Nats have delivered for Narrabri whether it be the Inland Rail at a federal level or upgrades to the showground at a state level.

“Going to Namoi Valley Christian School for my infant’s years, St Xavier’s in primary and Narrabri High School, I had a great primary and secondary education in this region.

“We need more women and men of integrity in politics who put people first.

“I am running because I want our best assets which are our young people to stay in the regions and get their dream jobs in regional NSW.”
