Moves for a Rangari Road upgrade are underway following an initial $10.4 million funding allocation to seal the important regional link.

While this funding is a great start, it was identified that a further $1.6 million is required to completely seal the 19 kilometre stretch of road, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said.

Early works have been underway for some time through Tamworth Regional Council with preliminary planning, survey, concept design and geotechnical investigation and pavement design already being completed.

The procurement of culverts, land acquisition, detailed design and tender documents are all well underway with the bulk of construction expected to begin in January 2022.

“Rangari Road is a bone shaker and a tyre tester. That is why I committed to sealing the road in 2019,” said Mr Anderson.

“This is an important road, not only for those who live along it, but for the miners, agricultural workers and families who use the road every day.

“$10.4 million has already been allocated by the NSW government and I am pushing for another $1.6 million to cap off the project and get it done.”

Tamworth Regional Council is currently in the process of procuring supplies and putting the works out to tender, creating jobs late this year and into 2021.
