The Narrabri Shire community will have the opportunity to see a video of the complete Wednesday night candidates’ forum online well before the December 4 council elections.
It was lights, camera and action when Narrabri professional videographer Jamie Condon recorded the event at The Crossing Theatre.
The Chamber of Commerce advises that the forum video is expected to be posted on Thursday.
This will be a digital-age ‘first’ for a Narrabri Shire Council election.
Another ‘first’ at the coming poll is the ‘grouping’ of two sets of candidates on the ballot paper. The two groups were each represented by one speaker at Wednesday’s forum.
Narrabri Chamber of Commerce hosted the event and the majority of candidates attended, giving presentations on their bid for election, background profiles and their wishes for a future council.
Five candidates who were unable to attend have been invited by the Chamber to have their addresses added to the video.
“The chamber wanted to make this community event as widely available as possible,” said chamber president Russell Stewart who chaired the forum.
“The video of the candidates’ presentations not only serves to bring the field to the widest possible audience, but it will also be a reminder to successful candidates of their pledges as the term of council progresses.”
The chamber initiated the candidates’ forum as part of its aim to engage with the community beyond its core role of advocacy for its business members, Mr Stewart said.
“There has probably never been a time in this shire when there are so many factors coming together which will positively shape our future” he said.
“We are an agriculture-based economy moving into the most promising seasonal conditions for years in the most productive farming land in the world.
“The shire has been designated as a Special Activation Precinct – one of a handful in NSW – which will see industry development given fantastic impetus. We are in a prime spot on the planned Inland Rail track and we have developing coal and natural gas energy industries which will increasingly provide employment and be an attractant for new businesses from manufacturing to processing.
“Those businesses will be complemented by a freight and logistics hub underwriting the success of the shire’s planned Northern NSW Inland Port.”
