Challenge Community Services is partnering in a trial of a new child car seat recycling scheme, SeatCare.
Recycling used child car seats is free at five Challenge locations, including Narrabri, until March 30.
It is estimated about half a million child car seats are discarded in Australia each year and most end up in landfill or at charity centres.
SeatCare aims to address this by providing a convenient and responsible solution for recycling used car seats.
The trial is funded by leading child car safety seat manufacturers and retailers.
Challenge Community Services general manager business services, Richard Hardwick said the initiative provides the organisation’s disability workers with an opportunity of employment.
“Not only is our team eager to gain more work, but they are also excited to come together and contribute to a more sustainable future through recycling,” he said.
The SeatCare trial will accept rear facing carriers and forward-facing seats, booster seats, car seat and carrier frames, as well as strapping and items that attach directly to the seat or carrier supported by the manufacturer.
Challenge drop off sites are available at Tamworth, Muswellbrook, Singleton, Gunnedah and Narrabri.
