Narrabri Pistol Club hosts annual Metallic Silhouette Small Bore and Field Pistol Open

Narrabri Pistol Club conducted their annual Metallic Silhouette Small Bore and Field Pistol Open last week from Friday to Sunday, August 2 to 4.

Thirty-three competitors came from a wide area, from Sydney, Cowra, Brisbane and all points in between, to join 10 Narrabri Pistol Club members.

Several NSW team members took advantage of the competition to fine tune their pistols ahead of the Pistol Australia Metallic Silhouette 100-metre Small Bore and 200-metre Big Bore National Championships that will be conducted by the club from Monday to Sunday, September 15 to 21.

A feature of the Metallic Silhouette Small Bore and Field Pistol Open was the four junior competitors. They included two NSW junior state team members – Narrabri’s own Chase Ford and also Lachlan Yule from Muswellbrook. There are no special grades for the junior shooters; they rather compete against all others in that grade which is determined by the scores they shoot, and they only compete against the other juniors for the junior four-match small bore aggregate and the two-match field pistol aggregate.

The conditions were fine and sunny on Friday and Saturday with cloudy conditions on Sunday. A brisk south easterly breeze kept temperatures down, and warm jackets and beanies were the order of the day.

Catering was, as usual excellent – breakfasts were provided by club members Melinda Marsh and Lewis Griffiths and the day catering by the Lions Auxiliary.

The club is very appreciative of their sponsors from Narrabri and Wee Waa. Their support certainly enhances the standard of the competition.

There were four small bore (.22) and two field pistol matches conducted, all over distances of 25, 50, 75 and 100 metres. Results are as follows:

Individual Matches:

Small bore production: first – Iain Yule (Muswellbrook) with 40/40, second – Richard Brown (Kurrajong) with 38/40 (countback), third – Jack Ford (Narrabri) with 38/40.

Small bore revolver: first – Kirsten Jackes (Brisbane Metro) with 38/40, second – Richard Brown (Kurrajong) with 37/40 (countback), third – Keith Rigby (Merriganowry) with 37/40.

Small bore standing: first – Glen Anderson (Inverell RSM) with 29/40 after a three-way shoot-off with:
Second – David Dewsbury (Narrabri) with 29/40 and third – Ian Yule (Muswellbrook) with 29/30.

Small bore unlimited: first – Kirsten Jackes (Brisbane Metro) with 36/40, second – Ian Yule (Muswellbrook) with 35/40, third – Judy Harding (Toogoolawah) with 31/40 (on a countback from David Dewsbury, Keith Rigby, Billy-Dean Borodzicz and Richard Brown).

Field pistol production sight: first – Keith Rigby (Merriganowry) with 32/40, second – Iain Yule (Muswellbrook) with 31/40, third – Glen Anderson (Inverell RSM) with 30/40.

Women’s field pistol two-match: first – Kirsten Jackes (Brisbane Metro) with 49/80, second – Melinda Mullen (Newcastle) with 45/80, third – Judy Harding (Toogoolawah) with 44/80.

Junior field pistol two-match: first – Lachlan Yule (Muswellbrook) with 25/40 (countback), second – Lailani Sinclair (Armidale) with 25/40, third – Chase Ford (Narrabri) with 23/40.

Narrabri Pistol Club members secured numerous grade placings:

Small bore production: INT-grade third – David Dewsbury with 37/40, AAA-grade first – Jack Ford with 38/40, third – Billy-Dean Borodzicz with 34/40, AA-grade second – Chase Ford with 33/40, A-grade first – Jeff Hamblin with 29/40.

Small bore revolver:
AAA-grade second – Jack Ford with 33/40, AA-grade second – Chase Ford with 30/40, third – Jeff Hamblin with 30/40.

Small bore standing:
AAA-grade first – David Dewsbury with 29/40, second – Jason Anderson with 24/40, AA-grade first – Billy-Dean Borodzicz with 26/40, A-grade first – Chase Ford with 15/40, second – Jeff Hamblin with 11/40.

Small bore unlimited:
