Narrabri’s Laura Gourley and her Australian Rowsellas quadruple sculls teammates Ria Thompson, Caitlin Cronin and Rowena Meredith lined up in the B final at the Paris Games on Wednesday and rowed their way to a second-placed finish.
The team narrowly missed out on a spot on the A final and the chance to compete for a medal when they placed third in the repechage race two days prior but needed to place in the top two.
The Aussies competed against the United States and Romania in the B final and rowed their way to second place as they finished the race just over a second behind the Romanians to end the 2024 Paris Games in eighth overall.
The A final was a thrilling contest and it was Great Britain who got the job done to earn the gold medal in the women’s quadruple sculls. In a photo finish, they edged out the Netherlands with a 6:16.31 as the silver medallists crossed the line with a time of 6:16.46.
Germany claimed the bronze medal after finishing third, and in fourth to sixth, respectively, were Switzerland, Ukraine and China.
