Narrabri Pistol Club shooter Jason Anderson has been selected onto the Australian Metallic Silhouette Team for a third consecutive year and will shoot at the International Metallic Silhouette Shooting Union World Cup to be held in Finland in August.

The Narrabri man will team up with Manilla’s Tim Davey and Inverell’s Glen Anderson at the event as they go on the hunt for more medals.

Those three shooters were selected based on their four best aggregate scores registered across a 12-month period up to early last month, and they are all currently shooting to earn selection onto next year’s team for the trip to Sweden.

The champion trio returned home from Hungary in 2023 with the big bore gold medal and then last year they returned home from South Africa with silver medals in three categories – big bore hand gun, the standing team event and the field pistol team event.

Anderson told The Courier that he was proud to have earned selection onto the Australian team again this year and was now looking forward to shooting at his second World Cup.

“There’s a World Cup every second year and a World Championships in the years in between,” Anderson said.

“2023 in Hungary was a World Cup, and South Africa last year were World Championships.

“I’m pretty proud and excited. We’re going back with the same crew and we’re the reigning champions after bringing home gold from the World Cup in 2023.

“We fly to Singapore and then fly to Helsinki and then drive six hours up to Oulu. The range will actually be brand new. They’re building it right now. It’s going to be a very large shooting complex.

“I’m looking forward to shooting there and like I said, going with the guys I’m going with. We always have a good time.”

Anderson said that he and his two teammates were honoured to earn selection onto the team, with all three of them coming from country towns.

“I think it’s a very big achievement for us,” Anderson said.

“A lot of people don’t realise what’s involved and what we actually do, and how difficult it is to get into this team.

“There’s a lot of time and effort and travel that goes into it. The only real downside is that there’s a lot of time away from family.”

The Australian team members all shot at Narrabri Pistol Club’s 43rd annual John Ford Metallic Silhouette 200m Big Bore Steel Challenge, which was held from last Friday through to Sunday.
