Wee Waa Bowling Club will be represented at state level once again when the 2025/26 season State Championships get underway in June next year, with one local family ready to take it to some of the best bowlers across NSW.
Melissa Allen, her mother Kay Dewson and two of her sons Brock and Kyne Allen travelled to the Moree Services Bowling Club on Sunday where they lined up in North West Bowls’ reserve pairs competition regional final.
The Wee Waa bowlers qualified for that event after winning their five-team section at Moree in October.
They challenged Walgett and District Bowling Club’s Grant Green, Jared Hunt, Paul Brown and Leo Hooper in that state championships playoff on Sunday and prevailed 21 shots to 19 in the 21-end contest.
The Wee Waa team had a comfortable lead midway through the match, but the Walgett men stormed home late as they pushed to overturn their deficit.
A four towards the end of the game and a three on the final end saw them fall just short as the Wee Waa family held on to win.
Kay and Melissa told The Courier that they were pleased with the way the team played on the day, and said they were excited to go away to the State Championships from July 6 to 8 to play together.
The mother and daughter duo have played at state level together before, and Kay has played alongside grandson Dustyn Allen in the mixed pairs, but this will be the first time Brock and Kyne will get to team up with their mother and grandmother at such a high level.
Kyne will compete at two events at the State Championships next year after he qualified for the reserve singles division when he earned the North West championship back in August.
