Sometimes, an opportunity can change the direction of a young person’s life.
For one Scots Old Boy from Port Macquarie, that opportunity came through a scholarship. Determined not to give up on his education after struggling to find the right fit at school in year 9, he joined The Scots College boarding community in year 10 and entered an environment that challenged his understanding of what he could achieve.
Surrounded by teachers, mentors and friends who encouraged him to take on challenges, he grew in confidence, rediscovered his enthusiasm for learning and began to see possibilities for his future that he had not previously imagined. Years later, he continues to credit his time at Scots with helping shape the person he became and the opportunities that followed.
It is this potential for transformation that sits at the heart of scholarships and bursaries at The Scots College.

A Scots education is about far more than achievement alone. Boys are encouraged to develop their strengths while building character, pursuing new interests, serving others and learning to contribute meaningfully to the communities around them.
Scholarships recognise boys who demonstrate outstanding ability or potential, together with the curiosity, commitment and drive to make the most of the opportunities before them. Academic scholars enter a learning environment where intellectual curiosity is encouraged and excellence pursued with purpose. Music scholars become part of a vibrant musical community, with opportunities to develop their craft through tuition, ensembles and performance.
Bursaries serve an equally important purpose: helping make a Scots education accessible to families for whom it may otherwise be beyond reach. This includes opportunities for boys from regional and rural Australia to experience boarding at Scots.

Within the boarding community, boys live and learn alongside peers from different places and backgrounds, supported by adults who take an active interest in their development. They are encouraged to try new things, contribute to college life and become increasingly independent, while forming friendships and connections that can last well beyond their school years.
There is no single type of boy who can flourish at Scots. Potential can be found in intellectual curiosity, musical ability, leadership, creativity, determination, character and a willingness to participate wholeheartedly.
For families considering what might be possible for their son, exploring a scholarship or bursary can be the beginning of an important conversation.
Applications for 2028 academic and music scholarships are now open for eligible year groups, with a range of bursary opportunities also available for 2027.
