The weather is cold, but the bushfire season is already hotting up in parts of NSW.
With more than 90 percent of the state in drought, dry fuel on the ground and a severe shortage of water, fire authorities are urging landholders to ‘be prepared’ for the fire season.
Narrabri Rural Fire Service is further strengthening local community readiness, offering two women’s bushfire preparedness workshops this weekend.
Narrabri RFS firefighters will help women develop survival plans for their properties at the sessions.
“The workshops aim to help women develop bushfire survival plans and learn practical skills like pumping, starting generators, using a variety of items to put out fires and defending homes against ember attacks,” explained Narrabri Brigade deputy captain Megan Davies.
The workshops will be held at Beulah Park Hall, Eulah Creek, on Saturday from 2-4pm and Tibbereena Rural Fire Station (Gun Club Road) on Sunday.
Everyone is welcome to go along, see demonstrations of fire fighting equipment and use it, and importantly prepare a plan, deputy captain Davies said.
