The Rotary Club of Narrabri will donate part of its proceeds from its Maitland Street pop-up book shop to the Country Education Foundation of the Namoi.

Usually, the service organisation would have held a fundraising event for the group during the year, however, COVID-19 has made that an impossible task.

Instead, the group invited CEFN to man the book shop on Friday and Saturday, October 30-31 with the proceeds from the days going towards the foundation.

Rotary Club of Narrabri president Grahame Herbert was thrilled to be able to support the foundation this year.

This year’s book sale has been an enormous success and when speaking with The Courier on Friday, Mr Herbert said $14,500 had been raised since the shop opened its doors earlier this month.

“It is one of our best years,” he said.

“This year, donations made directly to the CEFN before November 30 have the potential to be matched dollar for dollar. This means that all money raised for the CEFN at the Rotary Club of Narrabri’s annual book sale will be doubled, so we are really looking for strong community support to make this event a win-win for the CEFN and local students across the region.”

The foundation’s chair, Trudy Staines, thanked Rotary for its continued support.

“Rotary has been a fabulous supporter of CEFN,” Ms Staines said.

While she said the COVID-19 pandemic had impacted the foundation’s ability to raise money, it was fortunate to have people who donate regularly.

The money raised for CEFN will go towards the foundation’s important work in providing much-needed financial assistance to support local youth in helping them to achieve their post high school education, training and vocational aspirations.
