Mayor Ron Campbell welcomed the announcement of Narrabri’s Special Activation Precinct status.

“This is a historic moment for Narrabri Shire,” he said. “Our vision and strategic goals are solidifying, and with support of the NSW government, the shire’s future growth is assured.

“We are building a legacy for the generations to come.

“The Narrabri gas project and the Northern NSW Inland Port will be the cornerstone of our economic diversification strategy that will drive unprecedented growth in existing and emerging industries in our region which will create jobs and stability for future generations.

“SAP status will ensure these strategic goals are supported. A SAP will enable council to work with state government agencies to ensure key critical infrastructure to support a growing economy is available, social and community infrastructure is planned and ready for population growth.

“Council is grateful for the continued direct support from the Minister for Regional NSW, Industry and Trade and the Department Regional NSW who have always shown interest and believed strongly in our vision for our shire and wider region.

“Council has worked tirelessly over the past four years not only on developing the business case for the Inland Port and the possibility of providing gas but have also been developing our Growth Management Strategy, Local Strategic Planning Statement and are in the process of completing our Housing Strategy.

“All are key documents in being able to future proof our communities.

“Narrabri Shire is ready to prove the potential and very much looks forward to seeing the years of planning come together to deliver game changing outcomes for our community.

“The legacy these upcoming projects will provide our shire will benefit our community for generations to come.’
