Gunnedah couple Dan and Christiane Birkett dropped in to Narrabri Airport on Tuesday, caught a taxi into town for lunch, then back to the airport for a bit of sightseeing on their 40-minute trip back to Gunnedah.

Their sightseeing was from more than 500 hundred feet up, cruising along at a leisurely 120 kmh with the breeze in their faces in the open air cockpit aboard their gyrocopter.

Dan and Christiane are gyrocopter fans. They travel free as a bird in their gyro, a combination aircraft and light helicopter.

“It’s like a motorbike in the sky,” said Christiane. “Very comfortable, too.”

“We can stow our luggage, jump in to the gyro and be off quite quickly.”
