This year’s Narrabri Show rodeo is set to be even bigger and better than ever before, with a new event and updated stock contractors.
Event organiser, Craig Brown, is excited to welcome competitors and spectators from far and wide.
“We’ve added in the barrel race, which we haven’t run before, and we have some high-quality cowboys and cowgirls – some of the best in Australia – competing in this category, as well as our other rodeo events,” he said.
“And this year we’ve also welcomed a different stock contractor, the Gill Bros Rodeo, who are probably one of the best in the country.”
Local talents like Lane Rees (pictured) will be competing on the night, as well as men and women from neighbouring towns, cities and states.
“Some of the entrants have just finished competing at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, and a lot of them rank quite highly on the current national standings,” Mr Brown explained.
“We’re even welcoming the national barrel racing champion cowgirl, who will be in the mix on Friday.”
Winner of The Amazing Race season five, Brendon Crawley, will also be in attendance at the rodeo.
He’s the current Australian title holder for bareback riding, which he’ll be competing in on the night.
And even if you aren’t a die-hard fan of the sport, Mr Brown says there’s something for everyone at the event.
“We’ve got Leon Cunningham performing after the competition, which is exciting because we usually don’t host live music after the rodeo, but we’ve changed it up this year,” he said.
“And he’ll be on until late, so patrons can grab some dinner and a drink while they listen.”
While most of the rodeo categories are now closed for entry, some are still open until noon on Thursday April 29, including:
- 14 to 16 years junior bull ride,
- 8 to under 11 years barrel race,
- 14 to under 18 years barrel race,
- Opens bareback, and
- Opens bull ride.
The event will kick off around 7pm on Friday night, after the show opening, and will feature a bar, barbecue and canteen.
The rodeo is free to attend, covered under your show admission ticket.
