Narrabri Fire and Rescue team members welcomed visitors to their annual open day at the Narrabri fire station on Saturday morning.

Firefighters assembled information on household fire precautions and safety issues, introduced visitors to the state-of-the-art equipment used by the team and demonstrated some of the new technologies used by firefighters today.

The open day was 2a ‘fun day’ for the young visitors but the message from the firefighters was a serious one.

Fire safety awareness is vitally important, particularly in the winter months when heating devices are in use.

Open day visitors saw an impressive array of fire fighting equipment.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue has responsibilities across the local area but much further afield across the north west region through its role as a Hazmat hub.

The Narrabri-based Hazmat crew is trained in use of a specially fitted out Hazmat vehicle and equipment to deal with a range of emergency situations in their territory.

Narrabri Rotarians provided a barbecue for interested visitors to the open day which was held at the carpark on the corner of Doyle and Barwan Streets.
