Narrabri’s role as an emergency services hub for a wide area of the North West has been further strengthened with the delivery of a state-of-the-art new fire unit.

On Tuesday, the NSW Minister for Emergency Services, David Elliott, and Fire and Rescue NSW Deputy Commissioner Field Operations, Jeremy Fewtrell, were at the Narrabri fire station to hand over the new pumper.

The $530,000 appliance supplies up to 3000 litres of water a minute for firefighting operations and features a compressed air foam system to fight chemical, petrol and bush fires.

Mr Elliott said this new vehicle would serve to improve emergency response in the Narrabri area, providing even greater protection for local residents.

“FRNSW do a great job in responding to a variety of emergencies … and this investment from the NSW government will only improve the emergency response for the Narrabri community,” he said.

“Narrabri firefighters responded to nearly 280 fire and emergency calls in 2019/20, so this new pumper will be well utilised for the protection of the Narrabri community.”

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Deputy Commissioner Field Operations, Jeremy Fewtrell, said FRNSW continued to provide its firefighters with modern vehicles that will provide them with top-of-the-line capabilities to protect NSW families.

“This new pumper will give our firefighters the edge when responding to various emergencies,” Deputy Commissioner Fewtrell said.

“An upgrade such as this ensures that our firefighters have the best equipment and the latest technology to ensure the safety and protection of themselves and the people they protect.

“Now that we have these vehicles in our fleet, we are even better prepared to protect the irreplaceable, which is our loved ones and community assets.”

FRNSW replaces on average up to 40 vehicles each year with brand new and modern vehicles as part of a $17 million annual program.
