On Friday, June 11, The Friends of The Crossing Theatre will host a saxophone performance by Nexas Quartet.

The musicians will present a musical journey that will span from the nightclubs of Argentina, across to the lights and bustle of Paris and London, landing back home in Australia.

Familiar composers such as Gershwin and Debussy rub shoulders alongside the pioneers of tango including the world famous Astor Piazzolla in this, his centenary year.

Since their formation in 2002, Nexas Quartet have premiered countless new Australian works and collaborated with the finest musicians, theatre and dance companies.

Their debut album ‘Current’ was released in 2016 and is a reflection of their collaboration with leading Australian composers.

The recording, described by Stephanie Eslake for Limelight as ‘a riveting release,’ contains works by Kats-Chernin, Hindson, Skipworth, Rojas and Orlovich.

The quartet have also been invited to perform at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Melbourne Recital Centre, Sydney Opera House and at World Saxophone Congresses (Scotland, France and Croatia).

Nexas will also be doing a performance followed by a workshop at Narrabri High School which some of the local primary schools have also been invited to.

This project is funded by the Fred P Archer Charitable Trust and presented in association with Musica Viva Australia.

Bookings can be made online at www.crossingtheatre.com.au.
