Family fun day draws a crowd to Baan Baa

Locals from across the region gathered at Baan Baa Hotel on Sunday, May 23, to support the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Narrabri Volunteer Support Group.

President of the group, Chris Healion, said he was pleased with the turn out on the day.

“We had a very good day and drew a great crowd,” he said.

“We also had some wonderful feedback, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.”

The family fun day featured raffles, live music entertainment, a barbecue, face painting, nine-hole mini golf, and even a fashion parade.

“The fashion parade, put on by Boggabri’s Hassab’s Fashions, was just wonderful,” Mr Healion said.

“And after the parade some of the attendees showed their support for the local business by purchasing clothing and giftware.”

Mr Healion noted that the crowd also enjoyed the entertainment at the event.

“We had local musician Leon Cunningham there and everyone just loved that,” he said.

“You could see people tapping their feet and humming along because Leon played a lot of classic songs that everyone could enjoy.”

The face painting and mini golf were especially popular among the children.

“Heidi Gleeson was busy all day painting faces and she did a wonderful job – the kids all lined up patiently waiting for their turn,” Mr Healion said.

“The mini golf was fun too because the kids didn’t need to line up, they could just grab a stick and give it a go.”

But the major attraction of the family fun day was the raffle grand prize, a 45-minute helicopter ride.

“Bryce Guest flew his chopper up from Narrabri and then took our raffle winners on a scenic ride of the area,” Mr Healion said.

“We’re very grateful for his generosity in donating such a great prize.”

Without such great community support, Mr Healion says these fundraisers just wouldn’t be possible.

“So, thank you to everyone who attended and all of our generous donors and event sponsors,” he said.

“With your help, we’re able to keep that big red chopper in the sky.”
