Narrabri Shire libraries are participating in the One Book, One Region promotion.

The initiative is designed to generate discussion and enthusiasm about reading and literacy within communities.

One Book, One Region encourages people across the area to read and discuss the nominated book, and, in turn, create a region-wide movement.

It hopes to remind people of the benefits that come with reading and sharing a book.

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman has been selected as this year’s book, with multiple copies available across Narrabri Shire Library branches.

The initiative has been extremely popular across the Narrabri Shire – there were several free copies available from the Narrabri Library, with all of these books now with readers within the community.

Once a person has finished reading the book, they are encouraged to pass it on to a friend, neighbour or colleague to continue the cycle of reading.

Narrabri Shire Council’s cultural facilities manager, Scott Pollock, has picked up one of the books to read.

Joining him are residents of all ages from Narrabri, Boggabri, Wee Waa, Burren Junction and more.

One of them is The Courier’s own Ali Smith, who says she’s excited to finish the book and pass it along.

“I think I’ll send it to someone in COVID lockdown,” she said.

Narrabri Shire libraries encourage everyone in the region to participate in the program by reading and discussing The Thursday Murder Club.

You can show your support via social media by using #onebookoneregion to spread awareness about the new initiative.
