Sarah Leete, local singer/songwriter from Baan Baa, has just released a new single, One That Got Away.

The track was recorded in Brisbane with the help of her producer Michael Muchow.

Ms Leete says it was “just a dream to record” and she “loves the way it turned out”.

The videoclip for One That Got Away was shot in Raymond Terrace, with the help of Viper Creek Band’s guitarist Jeremy Minett.

Ms Leete is set to tour with the band later this year, with shows across the Narrabri Shire and beyond, pending COVID restrictions.

They were set to perform in some northern NSW towns this month, but Ms Leete said the ongoing pandemic has made things difficult.

“There’s been massive impacts, as I’m sure everyone in the music industry has felt,” she said.

“I was planning a tour but can’t do that now, and any line-ups I’ve been set to feature on have also had to be cancelled unfortunately.”

“But the positive side of that, is that I’ve had much more time to write new music.”

Ms Leete says One That Got Away is a good result from that writing time, since it was put together during COVID lockdown last year.

It tells the story of an ex-boyfriend and how it feels to celebrate his  successes despite the pair no longer dating.

“Even though it didn’t work out for us, I’m happy that he’s happy,” Ms Leete explained.

The single is her second new release this year, following Nothin’ Special’s debut in early 2021.

The previous single hit #3 on the iTunes Country Charts, #34 on the iTunes All Genre chart, was added to Spotify’s Country Chill playlist and has been played on national radio stations including Australian Country Radio, Kix Country and ABC Country.

“A lot of the stuff I’ve been writing lately has been quite reflective because COVID has given me the time to sit and look back, and you can see this style in both of my latest singles,” she said.

Nothin’ Special is more boppy and upbeat, telling the story of heartbreak, whereas I think this new song is a more grown-up version of processing those feelings. They’re not written about the same person, but my earlier single almost leads into this new one – like a sister song.”

Ms Leete says local listeners can expect more new music from her later this year.
