No matter their size, shape or colour, bras are designed to offer support.

In a competition run by the Monterey Café, a new spin has been added to the traditional purpose of these undergarments – as well as physical support, a range of pink bras will be offering financial support to the McGrath Foundation.

The competition is asking people across the Narrabri Shire to get creative and decorate their bras, with visitors to the café able to vote for their favourite.

The entry fee is flexible, giving participants the option to decide how much they’d like to donate to the cause.

“It means anyone can enter the competition,” Monterey Café’s Jenny Wilson explained.

“Whether you’ve got $1 to spare, or $100, every bit helps.”

Entries will be taken up until late October, with no age or location restrictions on who can participate in the competition.

Anyone wanting to vote for their favourite bra can do so in-store, with a $1 fee for every vote cast.

The competition is part of the Pink Up Namoi campaign, which will run across the region with the support of the Narrabri, Wee Waa and Boggabri chambers of commerce.

The campaign hopes to raise awareness in both men and women about breast cancer, as well as donations for the McGrath Foundation.

These funds will go towards specialist breast care nurses, further improving access for cancer patients in regional areas like the Narrabri Shire and surrounds.

The Pink Up Your Bra fundraiser is one of many taking place in the area over the coming months, with the campaign culminating in a spectacular Pink Street Dinner Party on Maitland Street in late October.

Here, the people’s choice winner of the bra decorating competition

will be announced, as well as an additional winner decided by a judging panel.

Both winners will be awarded vouchers to Monterey Café.

This street party will go ahead, COVID permitting, with the help of the Rotary Club of Narrabri.

Special guests are set to appear at the Pink Street Dinner Party, with more auctions and raffles taking place throughout the evening.

Corporate and community table options are available for people interested in attending.
