Councillor Cathy Redding was elected to the position of deputy mayor at a vote held at Tuesday afternoon’s ordinary meeting of Narrabri Shire Council.

Elected members voted to create the position again following a further extension of the council term due to the local government election delay.

The position will expire at the conclusion of the current term of council.

A vote was conducted for the position with the presiding deputy mayor Cameron Staines nominating in addition to Cr Redding.

With the tally tied at four votes for each candidate, council proceeded to select a councillor by lot.

As Cr Redding’s name was selected, she was elected as deputy mayor.
