One person has died and four people were injured following a serious single vehicle crash at Tarriaro in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Just before 1.30am on October 9, emergency services were called to Maules Creek Road, near Old Gunnedah Road, at Tarriaro – about 28 kilometres east of Narrabri – following reports a Toyota Landcruiser had hit a wild pig, before leaving the road and colliding with a tree.

The occupants of the Toyota – four men and a woman – were trapped inside the vehicle, before being released by Fire and Rescue NSW.

The driver – a 28-year-old man – was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with critical injuries. He died on Sunday.

The front seat passenger – a 21-year-old man – was taken by road ambulance to Narrabri Hospital, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital. He is in a critcal but stable condition.

The three rear passengers, a 21-year-old woman and two men – aged 20 and 22 – all sustained serious injuries, however, are now reported as being in a stable condition.

The woman was airlifted to St George Hospital, while the older man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.

The younger man was taken by road ambulance to Narrabri Hospital.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information, or dashcam footage from the area, is urged to come forward.
