Maitland Street eatery, the Monterey Café, is a local favourite.
With a whole range of takeaway food and drink options, most customers only drop in quickly for a meal on the go.
However, the establishment also has dine-in capabilities.
As well as the handful of tables and chairs inside, the Monterey Café also has an alfresco dining area out the back of the shop.
One of the business’s best-kept secrets, this outdoor space is a great place to take in the fresh air, soak up the sunshine, and admire the numerous potted plants.
But this cozy area wasn’t always the welcoming atmosphere it is now, according to business owner Jenny Wilson.
“This space had a lot of potential, but the ground was uneven, so it just wasn’t safe to navigate,” she said.
“So, I had the area concreted from the back entrance all the way to the door coming out of the shop.
“Now, we’re able to welcome more customers for dine-in meals.”
The change is just one of the improvements Mrs Wilson has made since purchasing the Maitland Street business just five years ago.
In addition to a relaxed atmosphere, the local staff members offer exceptional customer service.
The dozen-strong team are friendly and welcoming, not to mention hard working.
“We open at about 4.30am every morning, until at least 8pm, six days a week,” Mrs Wilson said.
“If there’s demand for longer trading hours, we will keep working later into the night.”
These longer opening hours are for the customer’s convenience, with the tasty treats at the Monterey available for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and every moment in between.
The shop’s ability to serve a variety of meals means their menu is extensive.
“Our pizzas are especially popular,” Mrs Wilson said.
“Made fresh in store, we offered them on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings for those people wanting to take a night off from cooking as the weekend approaches.
“Another popular menu item is our wraps – we offer them freshly-made and customised, as well as pre-packaged and ready to go.”
With a whole fridge in-store dedicated to on-the-go items – including sweets, pasta, sandwiches and more – customers looking for a quick meal are never short on options.
And these takeaway items vary each day, so there’s always something to suit your cravings.
Or, if you’re after something warm, you can turn to the hot food takeaway items instead.
The shop has everything from burgers, to a variety of chicken options, classics like the Chiko roll, and much more.
For dessert, you can treat your sweet tooth to custards, jellies, lollies and cakes.
The Monterey Café offers a variety of drinks to wash your meal down, too.
As well as great coffee and their famous traditional orange freeze drinks, the cafe also has a selection of milkshakes, thickshakes and Slush Puppies.
There’s a whole range of bottled and canned drinks too, plus cartons of flavoured milk.
