Minister for Mental Health, Regional Youth and Women, Bronnie Taylor turned the first sod at the Narrabri Community Garden.

The project, located on Doyle Street, is the brainchild of David Pierce and backed by the Rotary Club of Narrabri.

Mrs Taylor praised Rotary for supporting the initiative.

“Spaces like this are so important for mental wellbeing,” she said.

“They are a place where the community can be themselves, take some time out and learn more about local culture through growing plants, herbs and fresh vegies.”

Mrs Taylor was joined by Mr Pierce along with fellow members of the Rotary Club of Narrabri for the milestone.

The Doyle Street site is an ideal spot for the garden as it is close to the town, schools and the library.

Mr Pierce said Sunday afternoon’s sod turning was an exciting step forward for the garden project.
