Narrabri Shire Council has endorsed the 2022-32 Community Strategic Plan following extensive community engagement and consultation.
Council also adopted a suite of documents that outline the pathway for achieving the goals of the Community Strategic Plan, including the 2022-26 Delivery Program, the 2022-23 Operational Plan and the 2022-26 Resourcing Strategy.
Mayor Cr Ron Campbell said the documents will define and guide the delivery of the vision shared by the community and council to continue building a strong and sustainable Narrabri Shire.
“They outline a clear direction for the growth of the Shire and will work to achieve this vision,” Cr Campbell said.
“The first step towards this is delivery of the 2022-23 Operational Plan, which includes a capital works program worth more than $30 million.”
Council received two public submissions during the 2022-23 Operational Plan exhibition period, which were taken into consideration.
“We would like to thank everyone that participated in community engagement during the last six months; this input is valued and appreciated,” Cr Campbell said.
The document details the shire’s vision for the next 10 years and looks at the society, environment, economy and civic leadership.
Proposed major developments are also included and total almost $7.4 billion.
Combined, these projects are estimated to boast more than 3600 construction jobs as well as 1000 ongoing jobs should the developments go ahead.
These projects range from solar farms to Santos’ Narrabri coal-seam gas development.
Other major projects, including Inland Rail and the state three extension of the Narrabri underground coal mine, are also on the list of proposed developments.
The strategic plan details that the construction period for these projects is likely to extend across the next six years.
As part of the process to develop the plan, the community made submissions towards the formulation of the draft document.
An extensive list of suggestions encompassing the entire shire was detailed in documents attached to the agenda of the April meeting of Narrabri Shire Council.
This list can be viewed when viewing attachments of the ordinary council meeting on council’s website.
