Newborn baby Lane Booby has had an exciting start to life, taking a chopper ride home to Wee Waa from Narrabri hospital due to the floods.

“Thank you to Bryce from Northwest Helicopters for his kindness,”said Lane’s mum Ainsley Caulfield.

“He went out of his way to get us home, if it wasn’t for him, we would still be stuck in Narrabri.

“Lane was born in the afternoon on Friday, October 21 in Narrabri.

“Cody and the girls had quick cuddles after he was born then had to head straight home, they’ve been cut off at home from the flood since then.

“This helicopter ride was our trip home from hospital when he was three-days-old.”

“We are very smitten,” added Ainsley, who is a popular ambulance officer in the region.

Wee Waa is protected by a levee, and its resilient residents have been adapting to ‘island life’ as floodwaters repeatedly cut roads into the town – relying on community kindness, helicopter supply drops and emergency services such as the SES Unimog vehicle.
