Central North Rugby Union’s 2024 season will begin tomorrow but Narrabri Rugby Club will have to wait another week before their three sides take the field.
The Blue Boars’ first XV was initially scheduled to take on Walcha in the first round, but the Rams pulling out of the competition last month has landed Craig Gleeson’s men a bye first up. Narrabri’s second grade and women’s tens teams will also sit out with byes.
The club will make the most of the weekend off by hosting a golf day bonding session tomorrow.
There will be two first grade games played on the opening weekend of the season as Gunnedah Red Devils host the Tamworth Pirates and Scone Brumbies welcome Quirindi Lions tomorrow.
Joining Narrabri on the sidelines with round one byes are defending champions Moree Bulls and also the Inverell Highlanders.
There will be three women’s tens competition matches contested in round one and Narrabri are the only team who will sit out with the bye. The other six teams in the competition will all kick off their 2024 campaigns as Barraba host Moree, Scone host Quirindi and Gunnedah host Pirates.
There will also be three second grade games played tomorrow as Narrabri and Inverell sit out with byes. They will be the same fixtures are the women’s competition.
Narrabri Blue Boars will kick off their campaigns in round two when they travel to Moree to challenge the Boars in three grades on Saturday, April 13. They will be away again in round three when they travel to Gunnedah for showdowns against the Red Devils, and then all three grades will play their first home games of the campaign on Saturday, April 27, when they host Scone.
