I trust that you are all well! Last week was relatively quiet over the four days.

I am still having plenty of discussions about childcare around the shire.

While it isn’t directly in our remit, council must continue to advocate strongly for our residents and businesses regarding childcare.

This week, I attended a forum on housing run by County Mayors on regional housing.

Across regional NSW, there is pressure on house prices, housing availability, affordable public housing stocks, short—and long-term accommodation, and constraints around flood land, infrastructure, tradies, planning professionals, and more.

As we know, it is a wicked problem that requires all three levels of government to play their part.

A quick note about garbage collection – bins must be out on the kerbside before 6am on collection day.

Council recommends placing bins out the night before to avoid a missed service.

Ensure bins are placed at least 50cm apart and are clear of parked cars and trees by leaving a 1m space.

Please avoid parking vehicles in front of bin collection points on collection day.

The collection vehicle can only lift 70kg. If you require new, additional, or upsized bins, contact our customer service team at 6799 6866.

Boggabri residents, please remember the community meeting on Tuesday, April 16, at the Boggabri RSL at 5.30pm.

This meeting is a significant opportunity for us to come together and discuss community events, town signage, and plans for the town.

Your presence and input are highly valued and integral to shaping the future of Boggabri.

The Boggabri Waste Facility is expected to open at the end of this week, pending final cleanup.

The process has been complicated; however, the council staff have worked hard to render the facility safe.

Another thing to remind everyone about is fire safety.

Hopefully, everyone has checked their smoke detectors by now.

The beginning of the colder months marks a time when many house fires start.

Friday, April 12, is the last day for Narrabri Shire Volunteer of the Year nominations.

I am sure you all know plenty of volunteers who go unrecognised in our community.

Nomination forms can be completed online via the council’s website or can be collected from the council’s administration building or the Narrabri Region Visitor Information Centre.
