Five community organisations have shared in more than $24,000 from Narrabri Shire Council’s Community Financial Assistance Grant program.
The recipients were celebrated at a morning tea at the council chambers.
The latest awardees include Namoi Women’s Shed, Nosh, Narrabri Pony Club, NDCAS and Boggabri Drovers’ Campfire.
Namoi Women’s Shed provides a space where creativity and connections with other local women are encouraged. Funds will be used towards a teacher and course material for a workshop event.
Nosh is one of the region’s signature events through its biennial market day and activities (on a Saturday) and long lunch (on a Sunday). The organisation will receive funding towards exhibition marquees for this year’s event.
Narrabri Pony Club is a much-loved organisation in the community. Funds will be received to purchase new equipment.
NDCAS has been caring for the community for 50 years through the many services it provides. In 2024, the organisation launched its inaugural Community Christmas Drive which was supported through council’s grants program.
Boggabri Drovers’ Campfire supports economic tourism opportunities and draws thousands of people to Boggabri, and the shire, through its much-loved event. Organisers will use the funds to purchase a marquee to serve as a registration centre for the large event.
When congratulating the recipients, mayor Darrell Tiemens thanked the organisations and their dedicated volunteers for the outstanding service provided to the community.
“We’re not talking about just a handful of hours occasionally,” Cr Tiemens said.
“Most of you put in some serious knowledge and time into organisations, and for that we really appreciate it.
“We appreciate your hard work, your dedication and the fact that you bring so much positivity to the towns and villages of our shire.”
Cr Tiemens said so many in the community dedicated their time to the myriad of organisations and services in the shire – including sport, social events and community welfare.
“I think that’s one of the things that people notice when they come to Narrabri Shire and that is how engaged people are,” he said.
Cr Tiemens said becoming involved with community groups is a great way to get to know people in the shire’s towns and villages.
He particularly encouraged newcomers to the area to seek out organisations and services which suit their needs and interests.
Narrabri Shire Council’s Community Financial Assistance Grant program supports the delivery of projects and activities that pursue our values of a connected, unique, and culturally rich community.
The program is designed to assist the community’s development, provide funding for capacity-building events, projects, programs, and activities that benefit the people and the shire.
The next round of funding closes on March 4, 2025, with the total pool of funds capped at $40,000.
