A man has faced court after a stolen vehicle and firearm were seized in the state’s north last week.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NSW Police media said just after 4pm on Monday, September 15, police were called to a rural property on Lake Circuit, Yarrie Lake, approximately 35 kilometres west of Narrabri, following reports of an alleged vehicle theft.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District were told a 69-year-old man had parked a white ute at the location and the car went missing sometime between 9am and 4pm on the same day.
Inquiries established the man had a registered firearm and ammunition in the vehicle.
A screwdriver was seized at the scene.
A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.
About 11am on Tuesday, September 16, police located the ute with the alleged stolen firearm in it, on Nuable Road, Yarrie Lake.
The vehicle and firearm were seized to be forensically examined.
Following further inquiries, about 3pm on the same day, detectives, with the assistance from PolAir, arrested the 27-year-old man on Baranbar Street, Narrabri.
Further checks alleged the man was involved in a robbery at a business on Maitland Street, Narrabri, on Sunday, September 14.
The man was taken to Narrabri Police Station, where he was charged with larceny (two counts), demand property with menaces with intent to steal, steal from the person value less than or equal to $2000, and receive property-theft equal to serious indictable offence more than $5000.
He was subsequently charged with an outstanding warrant for break and enter house etc steal value less than or equal to $60,000 and destroy or damage property more than $2000 and less than or equal to $5000. He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 5 on Wednesday September 17, where he was refused bail to appear at Narrabri Local Court on Tuesday, September 23, said the statement.
