Six of Narrabri Bowling Club’s top lady bowlers farewelled the calendar year in style when the 2025/26 season’s triples final was contested at the club’s John McNamara Owen Campey Green on Saturday.
Lorraine Scott, Debbie Gleeson and Janet Coleman were crowned champions after taking down Janice Foxe, Rebecca Taylor and Lisa Pillar 20 shots to 12 across 18 ends.
That was the last ladies’ competition game that will be played at the club until March next year, and the six bowlers ensured it was a contest to remember.
Scott, Gleeson and Coleman struck first in the decider with one shot on the first end and two on the second to establish an early 3-0 lead, but Foxe, Taylor and Pillar then responded in style as they scored five shots across the next three ends to go ahead by two.
Another two-end run saw Scott, Gleeson and Coleman reclaim the lead as the trio registered three more shots to go ahead 6-5, but the game continued to see-saw as Foxe, Taylor and Pillar scored a three on the eighth end to go back in front 8-6.
Scott, Gleeson and Coleman scored one shot on each of the next two ends to level the score up at 8-all after 10 ends, and this time they went on with it as they scored two shots on the 11th and two more shots on the 12th to go in front by the largest margin up until that point at 12-8.
Foxe, Taylor and Pillar then scored three more shots on the 11th to reduce their deficit to one, and the 18-end contest looked certain to go right down to the wire.
However, this time they could not recapture the lead as Scott, Gleeson and Coleman scored a shot on each of the next two ends and then iced the match with five shots on the 16th.
Both teams scored one shot each across the last two ends as Scott, Gleeson and Coleman got the job done to prevail 20 shots to 12.
The victory capped off a sensational year of bowls for the three ladies, Gleeson in particular who was crowned the Narrabri Bowling Club’s 2025/26 singles champion back in September and won the 2024/25 season’s fours title in a side that included Scott back in April.
Meanwhile, Narrabri Bowling Club’s Thursday social bowls also wrapped up for the year last week as a trophy day was held.
The winning team included Stuart Coleman, Marie Redman and Lyn Tuckey, who beat Trish Allison, Ronnie Dewar and Bruce Tomlinson 20 shots to nine.
Second place went to Janet Coleman, Dee Fletcher and Berice Eather, who downed edged out Godden, Di Chessells, and Kay Dewaon 18 shots to 17.
The other match saw Cecile and Tony Redman contest a 17-all draw with Rhonda Fitzgerald and Keith Stoltenberg.
The men’s triples competition will continue this Saturday, December 6, when the first semi-final is played from 9.30am. Steve Daskey, Len Ryan and Tony Redman will meet Graham Rose, Larry Scott and Scott Dewar in that game.
The second semi-final of the men’s triples competition will be held on Saturday, December 13, from 1pm. Laurie Gilbert, Keith Stoltenberg and David Dewar will challenge Col Armstrong, Stuart Coleman and Kevin Baguley.
