On a beautiful autumn day, Narrabri Garden Club members met in the nursery area of Coogle Cottage for their April meeting.

Twenty-five members and one visitor attended and 16 apologies were received.

The meeting commenced with a minute’s silence for Beverley McNellee, a valued long-time member who recently passed away.

President Wendy McNair welcomed everyone to the meeting.

The George Foxe Pavilion at the Narrabri Showground is due for demolition soon and it is intended the May meeting will be held there as a farewell gesture. (See classified advertisement this issue).

If members have memorabilia of past show exhibits please bring them along.

Congratulations to Scott Pollock for his organisation of the recent Create event which was very successful.

Members enjoyed their tour of the exhibition and admired the works of so many talented artists.

We hope Scott has fully recovered from his recent illness.

Next year will be a busy year for the club.

It is the garden club’s 50th anniversary and at this stage it is anticipated celebrations will be held in June 2022.

Other events in 2022 to be kept in mind is the zone picnic day to be hosted by our club.

All garden clubs in our region will be invited so it is a matter of all hands being on deck.

We hope to set a date at next week’s meeting.

The other big event for 2022 will be hosting the NSW Floral Art Society’s competition day.

Due to the successful day held several years ago at Narrabri Bowling Club we have been asked to stage it again which is a real feather in our cap. The date will be advised.

An invitation was received to attend Gunnedah Garden Club’s 41st birthday later this month.

Please RSVP by May 14 if you wish to attend.

The past president of the Garden Clubs of Australia will be the guest speaker.

It was suggested certificates for long-term members should be presented which was agreed upon.

The bloom competition was won by Jean Cameron with her beautiful dahlia and second was Marilyn Collins’ rose.

Autumn is now with us with a little rain continuing to fall to refresh our gardens and add to our gardening pleasure.

With our May meeting being held at the George Foxe Pavilion at the showgrounds, members will need to bring their cups/mugs and chairs.

Morning tea is being catered for $5.

Please don’t forget to bring any memorabilia you may have so members can relive past memories.

Happy gardening everyone and keep safe and well.
