Narrabri Rugby Club’s women’s sevens side travelled to Inverell on Saturday where they played at Central North Rugby Union’s first women’s sevens gala day to kick off the reformatted second half of the season.

Narrabri scored its biggest win of the season in its first game of the day before losing despite leading early in its second.

The Blue Boars took on Barraba-Gwydir in game one and outscored the Ram-Rats 33-0 to secure a bonus point victory.

Skipper Toni Gale crossed for a hat-trick of tries in that win and also slotted two conversions to finish the match with 19 points.

Teammates Shona McFarland and Kate Brown also scored a try each, both of which they converted.

Narrabri then took on Gunnedah in game two.

The Blue Boars beat the Red Devils on both occasions back in round eight when they last met and the Narrabri team took the lead in their third encounter of the campaign when Anni Wenner scored a try which was converted by Gale.

However, Gunnedah capitalised on several Blue Boars errors and won the match 17-7.

Narrabri’s two round 10 fixtures were played either side of a 25-5 Pirates win against Barraba Gwydir. Inverell then won its two matches on home soil to finish the round. It downed Pirates 31-7 and Gunnedah 28-5.

Narrabri remained in third place following round 10. It now turns its attention to this Saturday’s gala day at Gunnedah where it will challenge both Inverell and Pirates.
