Narrabri Sporties’ 2020 Major Singles men’s bowls champion Trinity Kelly will have the chance to defend his title after qualifying for the 2021 final with a semi-final victory on Saturday.

Kelly became the Major Singles champion for the second time in three years in October last year when he downed Kevin Baguley 33-29.

This year, he will take on Norm Walford in the 2021 decider.

Kelly met Len Ryan in their semi-final match on Saturday and was victorious 31-8.

Ryan claimed the first two points of the contest after winning the first end, but Kelly scored a combined 13 points across the next nine ends to establish a 13-2 lead.

Ryan fought back with three points during the next two ends to make the score 13-5 after 12 ends, but Kelly then outscored his opponent 18 points to three to claim victory after 23 ends of play.

The defending champion and Walford will contest the final on Saturday, July 3, when Narrabri Sporties hosts the men’s Major Singles, Minor Singles and Senior Singles finals.

The Minor singles final will be contested by Terry Wilson and Steve Daskey who won their respective semi-final matches on Saturday. Wilson defeated Bruce Tomlinson 31-12 and Daskey downed Rob Wolters 33-20.

In Senior Singles, Len Ryan outscored Bob Cantrill 32-12, Laurie Gilbert beat Graham Rose 31-21 and Tony Redman downed Steve Daskey 32-18.

The semi-finals for that competition will be played this Saturday, June 26, from 1.30pm.

Fixtures are as follows:
Tony Redman v Len Ryan (marker – Graham Rose), Terry Wilson v Laurie Gilbert (marker – Bob Cantrill).

There were only four players for social bowls this week. Rob Wolters and Dave Dewar defeated Cindy Neil and Peter Small 23-11.

Meanwhile, Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club hosted ladies’ Veteran Single matches last Thursday.

Lyn Wedesweiler downed Lyn Tuckey 25-6, Helen Woodward outscored Denise Wall 25-9, Dawn Armstrong beat Trish Allison 25-14 and Kay Carolan defeated Di Chessells 25-17.

In ladies’ social bowls, Gloria Campey played swinging lead and with Leslie Price, Glennis Godden and Marie Redman defeated Heather Caton, Jan Etheridge and Cecile 16-15.

Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club Veteran Singles games to be played this Thursday, June 24, are as follows:
Helen Woodward v Heather Caton (marker – Denise Wall), Lyn Wedesweiler v Mary Wheeler (marker – Lyn Tuckey), Dawn Armstrong v Janet Coleman (marker – Trish Allison), Kay Carolan v Rhonda Welchman (marker – Di Chessells).

There will be two games of Club Pairs played during the morning this Saturday, June 26, which are as follows:
Lyn Wedesweiler and Cindy Neil will take on Gloria Campey and Carol Demamiel, while Glennis Godden and Di Chessells meet Marie Redman and Rhonda Welchman.
