Narrabri Clay Target Club is both eagerly and busily preparing for its annual King of Kaputar shoot which will incorporate the Western Zone Carnival on Saturday and Sunday, July 17 and 18.

The King of Kaputar shoot is the club’s main event for the year, with more than $12,000 in prize money on offer.

Narrabri Clay Target Club president Mark Barden told The Courier that local sponsorship had been “absolutely amazing” this year.

“It’s a sign of better economic times as well as confidence in our club to deliver a premier event,” Barden added.

The club held its most recent event on Sunday, when local shooters were joined by competitors from Moree, Inverell, Coonamble, Tamworth and Lightning Ridge who travelled to compete in the club’s 2021 Continental Eagle Point Score Club Championship.

Gusty southerlies and changing cloud cover made shooting conditions challenging.

Competition was solid in the fifth of the club’s six club championships events for 2021.

Shooters enjoyed the new outdoor area at the club grounds – a recently-completed project courtesy of a grant from Narrabri Shire Council.
