Narrabri Chamber of Commerce is planning the post COVID return of one of Narrabri’s major and best supported community events, the annual Business Awards Dinner.

As the COVID pandemic restrictions are eased the chamber has announced that the popular awards night will go ahead on Saturday, September 4.

Like so many events, last year’s presentation dinner was cancelled due to the pandemic.

“The Narrabri business community will have reason to celebrate coming out of the recent tough years,” said chamber president Russell Stewart.

“We have a vibrant business community and we need to acknowledge that – the business awards dinner is the opportunity.

“Things have never looked much better in agriculture, the impacts of the pandemic are easing and many feel we are riding a wave of optimism and excitement,” Mr Stewart said

“Businesses and the agricultural community have come through the double whammy of years of drought and the COVID pandemic.

“Local businesses have shown their resilience and determination and our agriculture industries are now very well placed for the immediate future.

“While many businesses in other regions were forced to close, our quality local businesses survived.

“And given that they have survived, just imagine what’s ahead,” Mr Stewart said.

“Agriculture, traditionally our number one industry, hasn’t looked this good for a long time. And we are very fortunate in this region to have an energy industry which supports the economy in the tough times.

“It is important to note the quality of businesses in Narrabri and the district which were able to survive not only the toughest drought in living memory but also the pandemic,” Mr Stewart said.

“They are still there. That’s wonderful news.

“And there is an exciting future.

“If businesses can survive what they have just been through, imagine what the future holds – huge opportunities and great prospects.”

Next week people will be invited to nominate their choice of businesses for recognition in a number of categories at the 2021 business awards dinner.

Nomination forms will be included in Tuesday’s Courier.

“Tickets will go on sale on Monday at The Crossing Theatre,” Mr Stewart said.

“Tickets will be $85 per head for Chamber members and $95 for non members. Numbers will be limited to 300 people this year, so I urge people to book early to avoid disappointment.”

Guest speaker for the business awards will be NSW Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope.
