Narrabri will be represented by five Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club members at the 2021 Bowls NSW State Playoffs next month across the Open Singles and Senior Fours divisions.
The club’s 2021 Singles champion Lorraine Scott is one of those.
Scott won the Singles final at the Region 3 Playoffs which were held at South Tamworth Bowling Club last Tuesday.
She was the Namoi District representative in the final four and took on the Central Northern representative, which was South Tamworth’s Cathy Verdich, that morning.
Scott won that match 25-14 to advance to the final that afternoon where she would meet Armidale Ex Services’ Brittany Camp in the afternoon.
The Narrabri bowler downed the New England representative 25-14 to be crowned the regional champion.
In the Senior Fours, which was also contested at South Tamworth Bowling Club last Tuesday, Narrabri’s Helen Woodward, Dawn Armstrong, Cindy Neil and Eva Sadler beat a Uralla team 17-8 in the morning then defeated a Bingara team 25-3 in the afternoon to be crowned Region 3 champions.
Narrabri was also represented in the Pairs division by Debbie Gleeson and Lorraine Scott who were unsuccessful as well as the Mixed Pairs division by Laurie Gilbert and Cindy Neil who were also unsuccessful.
Wee Waa Bowling Club was also in action at the Region 3 Playoffs. It was represented by Lisa Pillar and Dot and Kay Dewson in the Open Triples division who teamed up to play with clubmate Jess Collingridge in the Open Fours division.
Wee Waa was also unsuccessful in its attempt to reach the 2021 Bowls NSW State Playoffs.
Scott, Woodward, Armstrong, Neil and Sadler have now advanced to that event which will be held at South Tamworth from Monday, August 23, to Tuesday, August 31.
Locally, the first semi-final in the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2021 Club Pairs competition was contested at Narrabri Sporties on Saturday.
Marie Redman and Rhonda Welchman advanced to the final after defeating Kay Carolan and Mary Wheeler in a very close contest.
Carolan and Wheeler led 5-4 after six ends then Redman and Welchman took the next four ends to lead 11-5.
After 17 ends, Redman and Welchman led 15-13. Carolan and Wheeler then held two shots on the 18th and final end which would have forced a one-end playoff, however, Redman played an on-shot to separate the bowls and sit the jack for shot. Redman and Welchman went on to score four on that last end to take the game 19-13.
There were lots of brilliant bowls delivered during the game by all four players.
The second semi-final of the ladies’ Club Pairs competition between the team of Dawn Armstrong and Eva Sadler and the team of Debbie Gleeson and Lorraine Scott will be played tomorrow at 2.30pm, with the final to be played this Saturday, July 17.
In the first Veteran Singles semi-final, Mary Wheeler defeated Rhonda Welchman 25-11.
The second semi-final between Helen Woodward and Dawn Armstrong will be played this Thursday, July 15 (marker – Janet Coleman).
Ladies’ social bowls was played last Thursday. Carolynne Tomlinson and Sue Solomon defeated Olwyn Campey and Yvonne Hardman 19-13, Ronnie Dewar and Lyn Tuckey defeated Jan Etheridge and Di Chessells 17-15 and Glennis Godden, Carol Demamiel and Cecile defeated Leslie Price, Trish Allison and Kay Carolan 16-8.
The Narrabri Sporties’ men’s Club Pairs competition will commence this Saturday, July 17.
Matches scheduled to be played on Saturday are as follows: 9.30am – Len Ryan and Steve Daskey v Paul Crutcher and Dave Dewar, Nick and Larry Scott v Laurie Gilbert and Norm Wolford, Ron Ryan and Ian Macmillan v Tony Redman and Graham Rose, Scott Dewar and Stewart Coleman v Kevin Baguley and Trinity Kelly. 1.30pm – winner of Scott/Wolford v Bill Rosewarn and Rob Wolters, winner of Rose/Macmillan v Anthony Welchman and David Briggs.
