The Rotary Club of Narrabri made history at its meeting last Thursday night when it conducted its first online membership induction.

In normal circumstances, the club would usually meet at the Tourist Hotel for its weekly dinner meeting and members would rise to welcome the newest addition to the service organisation.

Club members still stood to welcome Ms Kirkby to the Rotary fold, however, this was done via Zoom.

Rotary members have embraced connecting online during lockdown restrictions, with meetings still featuring a guest speaker, a similar format to its regular gatherings.

Age is no barrier to meeting online, with the club’s oldest Rotarian, Pat Carberry, 93, also ‘Zooming’ in.

The Courier’s editor Dylan Smith, a Narrabri Rotarian, spoke about the launch of the Gunnedah Times newspaper at the first e-meeting.

Last week’s meeting featured district governor David Mayne as the guest.
