Narrabri Shire Council recently held a Mayoral Housing Summit which it said will drive future planning and strategy-making in the shire.

Mayor Ron Campbell said the event provided an opportunity to meet with real estate agents, senior council staff and council’s strategic planning team to discuss the housing needs of the region.

“This was an excellent opportunity to focus on bringing key stakeholders together to discuss the current and future housing needs of the community,” he said.

“The summit provided meaningful consultation with industry which can in turn provide focus and direction.”

Cr Campbell said the overall aim is the development of a strategy which will plan and guide growth while maintaining diversity, lifestyle and location feasibility.

“We want to ensure housing is close to amenities and services, acknowledge the need for choice, enhance liveability and reflect the unique character of our shire.”

The purpose of creating the strategy is to ensure council can adequately plan for the shire’s housing objectives and needs of its community well into the future.

The plan will take into consideration the evolving needs of the community, provide a diverse range of housing choice whilst taking into consideration the several slated multibillion-dollar projects that will underpin growth of the Narrabri Shire over the next several years.

In addition to the information received from real estate industry professionals at the Mayoral Housing Summit, council will create a draft housing strategy that will be placed on public exhibition for community comment and feedback at a later date.
