On September 25, the Narrabri branch of the Cake Decorators Association held its annual general meeting and was proud to award the honour of life membership to long-time contributor Dawn Armstrong.

Nearly 40 years ago, in June 1983, a meeting of interested ladies was held at the Narrabri Art and Craft Society workroom to form a Narrabri branch.

Mrs Armstrong was instrumental in the formation of the group and has held every executive position within the committee.

Proactive in organising demonstrators for each monthly meeting and attending annual National Cake Decorators Association seminars in Sydney, Mrs Armstrong has ensured the Narrabri branch possesses the latest decorating methods and consequently the group has consistently kept in touch with new trends in the industry.

Mrs Armstrong has been a driving force in the group being involved in the decoration of Narrabri’s Meals on Wheels mini-Christmas cakes, which have been supplied to residents for decades.

An active member of the Narrabri Show Society, Mrs Armstrong continues to enter the cake decorating competition each year.

Mrs Armstrong celebrated her 90th birthday in July of this year, and the group was extremely proud to acknowledge her achievements and present her with the life membership award.

The AGM was conducted with executive positions of president Dawn Armstrong, secretary Janice Smith and treasurer Kathy Panton remaining unchanged.

The committee discussed the mini-Christmas cakes with the Narrabri branch making and decorating 60 cakes to be distributed to Meals on Wheels recipients in November.
